Stronghold Crusader poster: a castle at dusk

Stronghold Crusader

Firefly Studios' 2002 castle-building strategy classic. Raise a fortress in the desert, feed and pay your people, then hold the walls against the Sultan, Richard the Lionheart and Saladin. On SchoolBros it runs from your own copy of the game: pick the folder you installed it to and play it in the browser. Your files stay on your computer.

How it works: open the player, click Choose game folder and select the folder that contains Stronghold Crusader.exe. The browser reads the files locally; nothing is uploaded. The first start sets up Windows and takes about a minute.
Browsers: Chrome or Edge on a desktop open the folder directly. In Safari or Firefox, drag the game folder onto the player instead.
Controls: the original mouse and keyboard controls. Space pauses, Esc opens the menu.

Your copy, your computer

The player mounts your installed game folder as a drive inside the browser. No game files live on SchoolBros and none leave your machine.

Wine in the browser

Boxedwine runs Wine 11 compiled to WebAssembly, so the original Windows game runs as it is, with no installer and no download.

Remembers your folder

Chrome and Edge remember the folder you picked, so next time you only confirm access and go straight back to your castle.

Best on desktop

It needs the PC game files and a mouse, so play on a laptop or desktop. Expect slower speed than on Windows: it is a whole PC running inside a tab.
