WarioWare: Twisted!

Party GBA Classic Playable Now 2004 🎮 Keyboard / Gamepad

WarioWare: Twisted! is the third WarioWare game, developed by Nintendo SPD and Intelligent Systems for the Game Boy Advance. It came out in Japan in 2004 and North America in 2005, and it was never released in Europe. The cartridge contained a gyro sensor, so most of its 223 microgames asked you to rotate the whole console. Each microgame lasts only a few seconds, and finishing them unlocks well over a hundred souvenirs such as toys, records and bonus games.

What WarioWare: Twisted! is

Like earlier WarioWare games, Twisted! throws very short tasks at you one after another, each with a one-word instruction and only a few seconds to work out what to do. The difference here was the hardware. A gyro sensor built into the cartridge detected when you turned the Game Boy Advance left or right, so most microgames are about spinning, steering or balancing rather than pressing buttons. Buttons still appear, but tilt is the focus.

The game is split into stages hosted by different characters, each with their own story and theme. 9-Volt's Spintendo Classics stage, for example, reworks scenes from old NES games into spinning challenges. Clearing stages and playing the capsule machines unlocks 139 souvenirs, including figurines, instruments, toys and small extra games.

How it plays in your browser

A browser cannot read a real gyro sensor, so the emulator on this page turns tilt input into button presses instead. Holding the mapped buttons rotates the game as though you were turning the console. It does not feel quite the same as physically twisting a Game Boy, and some microgames that expect quick, precise turns are harder to judge, but the full game is playable.

Before starting a stage, spend a moment finding which inputs handle tilt in the emulator controls so you are not guessing when the first microgame starts. After that, it plays like any WarioWare game: react fast, fail a few, and speed up as the stage goes on.

Tips worth knowing

  • Read the one-word instruction first. It usually tells you whether a microgame wants rotation or a button press.
  • Tilt in short, controlled bursts. Holding a direction too long often overshoots in steering and balancing games.
  • Check the emulator's control settings for the tilt mapping before you start a stage.
  • Replay stages you have cleared, since high scores and repeat plays are how many souvenirs are unlocked.
  • The boss microgames at the end of each stage last longer, so a steady approach beats rushing.

Frequently asked questions

How does tilting work without a gyro sensor?

The emulator maps the tilt sensor to buttons, so holding the assigned inputs rotates the game in place of turning the console. Check the on-screen controls or settings for the exact mapping.

Why was WarioWare: Twisted! not released in Europe?

It was planned but kept being delayed, and the Game Boy Advance was discontinued before a European release happened. A rumour that the sensor contained mercury circulated, though the part was actually a piezoelectric sensor.

How many microgames are in Twisted!?

There are 223 microgames spread across the different character stages.

Who made WarioWare: Twisted!?

It was developed by Nintendo SPD and Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo.
